Metal Screens & Partitions

Metal screens add character and define space without closing it off. We fabricate bespoke decorative screens, partitions, room dividers and feature panels in steel and stainless steel, cut and finished to your design.

What we make

• Decorative screens — laser-cut patterns, flat bar grids or slatted designs for restaurants, bars, hotels and offices.
• Room dividers and partitions — open steel frames that zone a space while keeping light and sightlines.
• Feature walls and panels — cladding panels, signage backgrounds and art pieces.
• Privacy screens — for gardens, terraces, balconies and bin stores.
• Plant and service screening — hiding air-conditioning units, plant and meters on roofs and around buildings.

Materials and finishes

Mild steel is the most versatile, and can be powder coated in any RAL colour, painted, or given a raw or blackened look under a clear lacquer. Stainless steel is brushed or polished for a clean, modern finish and suits wet or high-traffic areas. Weathering steel develops a stable rust-coloured surface outdoors and is popular for garden screens and landscaping. For outdoor mild steel, galvanising first gives a much longer life.

Designing a screen

Whether it is a laser-cut pattern for a restaurant, a balustrade-height divider for an office, or a privacy screen for outdoors, we work from your concept, a sketch or a designer's drawing and advise on materials, finishes and fixings.

The main things to settle early are:

• Openness — how much you want to see through, which sets the pattern and spacing.
• Fixing — floor and ceiling fixings, wall brackets or free-standing feet, depending on what the building can take.
• Weight and access — large screens are made in panels that fit through doors and lifts.
• Safety — where a screen also acts as a barrier at a change in level, it has to meet the same rules as balustrades.

Our work

At Mowgli in Newcastle we made decorative balustrades with scrollwork panels and twisted spindles in a textured patina finish, as part of a curved staircase and mezzanine. It's a good example of how bespoke metalwork can become part of a room's character. See more in bespoke metalwork.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a screen from my own design? Yes. Send a sketch, a drawing or a picture of the look you want, and we'll turn it into a design that can be made and fixed.

Will a steel screen rust? Not indoors with a powder coat. Outdoors, galvanising under the powder coat stops rust, or choose stainless or weathering steel.
